The Santa Claus Day

Today is 6th December and we've got a Santa Claus Day. On this day we remember about St. Nicolas, a bishop, who lived many years ago and who helped poor people. Therefore today in Poland people give each other some gifts. Usually somebody dresses up as Santa Claus and wears a red costume, red cap and long beard. This person gives children some sweets and different toys. In our school today there also was a St. Claus and he was giving candies.

Welcome in Poland !

Poland is a country in Central Europe. Poland is bordered by Germany, The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania and the Baltic Sea. The longest Polish river is Wisła (The Vistula River). The country’s highest peak is Rysy (2 499 m). Poland has a population of over 38 million people, which makes it the 34th most populous country in the world.
We invite you to watch a silent award-winning movie about the history of Poland:
Here you've got some information for you about our country.
First, the short text written by Paweł about Polish movies .

Poland is the country very rich in many artists from different fields. We have the huge wealth of many movie directors who are known in the whole World – Agnieszka Holland (“In Darkness”), Roman Polański (“Ghost-Writer”), Jerzy Skolimowski (“Essential Killing”) or Andrzej Wajda (“Katyń”) are some of these. They were nominated to many movie awards - Oscars Academy or César. Andrzej Wajda has won an Oscar for his output. We have many great actors too. One of them is Daniel Olbrychski, in 2010 he got the role in the thriller – “Salt” in which he performed beside American superstar Angelina Jolie. *Curiosity: Alicja Bachleda Curuś - Polish actress met American actor Collin Farrell during her stay in the USA, but their marriage wasn’t long. There is a difference between Polish and American productions. Our movies are valuable and with a message, so they are respected and appreciated on an international scale.
Next is Liwia's presentation about Models and designers.
Fashion starts playing an increasingly important role among our countrymen. We have many great designers, including Ewa Minge, who begins to achieve success in Europe. In addition to the well-known designers we also have wonderful models who take part in shows by top designers in the world. More information will be included in the presentation. I strongly encourage you to watch! :)
Here is Ola's note about athletes.
In Poland there are a lot of famous athletes in different disciplines for example running, cross-country skiing , ski jumping etc. In the picture we can see two winners Kazimierz Orzeł and Józef Bednarczyk who won a lot of contests. Kazimierz Orzeł is a famous runner who was a participant in the Olympic Games in Mantreal in 1976. Józef Bednarczyk is a repeated winner in discus throw in sports competition in Poland. Here is a photo of my father with both former sportsmen:
These are the most popular sportsman in our country. Check out these links and enjoy videos:

And a link to the official website of the championship in 2012:
